OK, I wasn’t into dolls (I’m a guy!), but I sure had Action Man as a young boy. The importance of toys and playing as children is enormous. Play is being introduced more and more in school classrooms to help trigger children’s imaginations and storytelling abilities.
Scaling her business
Gianni started by giving old Barbie dolls to homeless shelters as Christmas presents. It quickly escalated and she knew she would have to come up with other ways to generate money to sustain her initiative.
Gianni needed money to pay for wrapping paper so she could wrap up the Barbie dolls for other girls as gifts. She thought about it and decided she would make and sell earrings from fabric she purchases at craft stores. The money she makes then pays for the wrapping paper.
A beautiful personal touch
The final touching point in her story is that she always includes a personal, hand-written note with every doll. She said “The girls that are in the foster homes may think, ‘No one loves me,’ ‘I’m not beautiful,’ ‘I’m not anything,’ But they actually are, and I want them to find that in themselves!”
All I need to find out now is whether she needs a logo or a new website building…
